Ophthalmics
Pleiad
has developed expertise in ophthalmology by virtue
of running many ophthalmic trials and inheriting
the legacy experience of its staff.
Approximately
50% of Pleiad's ophthalmology trials are of medical
devices or diagnostics, and the rest are of pharmaceutical
products. It is noteworthy that ophthalmic implants
such as intra-ocular lenses are predicted to be
the third largest segment of implanted devices
by 2014, worth around $1.5 billion. This ties
in nicely with Pleiad's expertise in ophthalmics
and implanted medical devices.
As
in most therapy areas, the devil lies in the details
of clinical assessments, data collection, and
monitoring. Many of our specialist ophthalmology
staff were originally ophthalmic technicians and/or
coordinators at ophthalmology sites. So their
monitoring is particularly effective and they
are able to understand and interpret data rather
than just checking them.
